Interview with Dud: Holodomor, Repressions, and the War in Donbas

In May 2021, following the release of his interview with Yury Dud, EeOneGuy accused the journalist of censorship, claiming that his remarks concerning the Holodomor, NKVD political repressions, and Russia's war against Ukraine were cut from the final release. In the omitted fragment, Ivan described the Russian Federation's actions against Ukraine as deceitful and expressed profound anger over the armed conflict in Donetsk and Luhansk.

He later deleted the tweets and apologized to anyone who might have been offended, voicing hope that the Ukrainian and Russian peoples would “forever remain brothers.”

Russian Language and Ukrainian Content

In a 2021 video address, EeOneGuy noted that he is a Ukrainian patriot and advocates the growth of Ukrainian-language media, but stated that:

We must build healthy relations between our countries, and the Russian language is a wonderful tool for doing so.

Concurrently, he categorically condemns using the Russian language as a pretext for armed aggression and military occupation.

The First Days of the Full-Scale War

Following the start of the full-scale invasion, EeOneGuy unequivocally spoke out against Russian aggression.

On February 24, 2022, he posted a video on his YouTube channel titled “NO TO PUTIN'S WAR!”. In the video, he condemned the invasion and called upon Russian citizens to take to the streets in protest:

I am against Putin's war. Today I woke up to explosions. Russia has launched a war against us, against Ukrainians... While you fear getting hit by a police baton, I fear that a missile will strike my home and the homes of my loved ones. If you don't want to go down in history as a bunch of silent cowards, this is your last chance. Don't be afraid of Putin; he is just a lonely old man.

On March 2, 2022, alongside other Ukrainian bloggers, he released a collaborative video in which they condemned the war and urged Russians not to stay silent. Over the following months, he published several more videos focusing on the invasion of Ukraine.

For a period, the creator transitioned to Ukrainian, but later returned to Russian, explaining that his wider audience had not embraced the language shift.

Scathing Criticism of Russia

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, EeOneGuy posted aggressively about the war, condemning the Russian military and authorities. He also repeatedly published numerous ferocious attacks directed at Russian society.

Because of his most abrasive posts, EeOneGuy faced harsh criticism from Russian commentators, who accused him of erratic behavior and substance abuse.

Over time, the posts were removed.

On October 7, 2023, during streamer Kasha's livestream “Trial of Nekoglai”, EeOneGuy appeared as a witness and defended Nekoglai. During the broadcast, EeOneGuy delivered a scathing characterization of the Russian state:

First of all, personal animosity was obvious, and some of the accusers held personal grudges rooted in the political stance of Kolya Nekoglai, who ran afoul of the state machinery of the notorious terrorist organization known as the Russian Federation.

Investigation by Russia's Ministry of Internal Affairs

In July 2023, news surfaced that Russia's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) had launched an investigation targeting EeOneGuy. According to Russian state media, the inquiry was prompted by his anti-war commentary and a TikTok video featuring a 2,000-ruble banknote.

Remarks on a 2024 Livestream

In January 2024, while in Amsterdam, EeOneGuy visited streamer JesusAVGN, where they held a joint livestream. EeOneGuy's key statements regarding politics and the war in Ukraine included:

On staying «outside politics»: «I believe that absolutely nothing in this world should be outside politics. Because as many people as possible need to be involved in politics... That is what could potentially change so much of what exists and happens in the world.» He described the decision to permit Russian athletes to compete internationally (even under a neutral flag) as completely misguided.

On Putin and autocratic rule: «On the contrary, it's terrible because people gave one single person so much influence, and a human being is an unstable creature. <...> For this purpose, checks and balances exist where everyone monitors everyone else. Granting this much power to one person is simply disastrous.

Currently, Ivan runs a YouTube channel under the name aewee, publishing long-form analytical investigative videos (such as exposés on Yury Dud and Nikolay Sobolev). He also streams on Twitch and produces electronic music under the moniker AWEN.
