Sharlot (Eduard Sharlot) is a Russian musician, singer, and songwriter. He gained popularity through covers of songs by the band "Poshlaya Molly" and his participation in the TV show "Pesni on TNT". In 2023, he released a project titled "Poetic Extremism", expressing harsh criticism toward Russia, notably creating a satirical parody of the Russian national anthem. Born on 7 February 1998 in Samara, Samara Region, Russia.
Sharlot's stance on the war in Ukraine
Following the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the musician left Russia.
On 22 June 2023, he posted a video on Instagram cutting a ribbon shaped into the "Z" symbol — the insignia of Russia's war against Ukraine. He added that he was opposed to the war.
On 26 June 2023, Sharlot published a video on his Instagram account showing him burning his Russian passport with the caption "I am experiencing an orgasm". He commented on his actions in the video as follows:
For the past three years, I have actively opposed state policy regarding the war against Kyiv. I want to reach the capital of Ukraine, to support people through performances, concerts, and other assistance. I believe it is necessary to stand in difficult times with those who are being oppressed. I am no longer a citizen of criminal Russia. I am geographically in another country. I choose those who stand for peace for the 'brotherly people'. Please organize a way for me, for instance through an official invitation

Return, arrest, and change of rhetoric
On 22 November 2023, the artist flew to Russia from Armenia and was detained at Pulkovo Airport in Saint Petersburg. On that same day, Ekaterina Mizulina published a "penitence" video of singer Sharlot, in which he confessed on camera before security officials that he had been "mistakenly subjected to the influence of false information".

On 27 December 2024, the Samara Regional Court sentenced Eduard Sharlot to 5.5 years in a penal settlement. The court found him guilty of "rehabilitation of Nazism" and "insulting the religious feelings of believers".
Attempt to travel to the SMO zone
Already convicted and incarcerated, Sharlot made radical attempts to demonstrate his loyalty. In September 2025, it was reported that the artist appealed to prison authorities and the court requesting to be sent to the "SMO" combat zone to perform for Russian soldiers. The artist's father, Valery Sharlot, stated:
It's not like he wanted to go with an assault rifle, he doesn't know how to do that. It was only about him talking with the fighters and lifting their morale with music
The materials were submitted to the court. Subsequently, the prison administration filed records of internal disciplinary violations by Sharlot. As a result, the court transferred Sharlot to a general-regime penal colony, effectively worsening his detention conditions. This in turn led to the refusal to deploy the singer to the "SMO" zone.

Можно было не глупить, не возвращаться в Россию, либо сидеть в тюрьме помалкивая, раз уж ты действительно так топишь против войны. Совершил глупость - сиди. Доречі чимало кажуть про те, що з ним робили в тюрмі. Я не хочу вдаватися в подробиці але вочевидь що його змушують. Він показав свою позицію і зараз за законами росіі відповідає за це. На війну він скоріш за все хотів піти щоб втекти. Або ще щось. Його ламають і я не бачу сенсу звинувачувати його в тому що він змінив риторику. Ніхто не знає що з ним робили для того щоб він "переобувся".
