Mariya Nefedova is a Russian rock musician who achieved nationwide fame as the violinist of the legendary punk rock band «Korol i Shut» (during 1998–2004). She was born in Leningrad. It was to her that the band «Tarakany!» dedicated their hit song «Masha — the Violinist from 'Korol i Shut'».
In 2004, at the height of her musical career, Mariya decided to move to the United States to join her husband and leave the big stage. For a long time, she led a private life abroad, only occasionally updating her fans on social networks. In 2013, she briefly returned to Russia to take part in farewell concerts dedicated to the memory of the band's frontman Mikhail Gorsheniov.
Stance on the war in Ukraine
Following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Mariya Nefedova took an open anti-war and pro-Ukrainian stance. On February 28, 2022, she wrote on her Instagram: "San Francisco stands with Ukraine", accompanying the post with a photo from a rally in support of Ukraine.
All her subsequent posts were likewise aimed at condemning Russia's actions and supporting the Ukrainian people:
I am furious! Russians,
If you were against it and spoke out — I am proud of you and admire you.
If you were against it and stayed silent — I understand you and do not judge.
If you support it — I despise you. And I wish for the latter that when, after all the pleasantries of civilized life, total catastrophe hits you, your eyes finally open and you clearly realize what single subhuman you should have gotten rid of a long time ago.» (source)
