Sergey Detkov on the war

Detkov's stance on the war in Ukraine

First statements following the full-scale invasion

At the moment of Russia's full-scale invasion, Detkov was in Kyiv.

Sergey Detkov became the only member of the ChBD cast who publicly spoke out against the war. In the initial days of the invasion, he posted Instagram stories in support of Ukraine:

For four days now, a real war has been raging in Ukraine. There is a curfew in Kyiv; Russian sabotage groups are operating in the city. Okhtyrka, Sumy, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Melitopol, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Odesa, Kyiv, and other cities are under attack. Large and small. Fighting is underway near Kyiv, in Hostomel, Irpin, Vasylkiv. The list could go on, but it's better not to, and I hope this nightmare does not continue. As the classic quote goes: 'STOP!'

Support for Ukraine

In August 2022, he participated in a charity basketball match in Warsaw in support of Ukraine (raising funds for internally displaced persons), playing alongside notable figures like T-Fest, Slava Komissarenko, and others.

Relocation and life in Europe

Detkov completely severed ties with Russian media, runs his own YouTube channel, and performs stand-up tours across Europe.

In May 2024, on an episode of "Let's Make a Show Together" on Slava Komissarenko's YouTube channel, Sergey shared that he lived in Poland for a period before moving to London, where he has resided for about a year.

Interview with Yury Dud (2026)

In the summer of 2026, Sergey Detkov gave an extensive interview to journalist Yury Dud. In it, the comedian shared detailed accounts of how he experienced the full-scale invasion in Kyiv, his volunteer work at a relief hub, and why he feels he "canceled himself" for working on Russian television after 2014.

On the first days of the war and coming to terms with reality: «I'm sitting there and saying to my friend: 'Remind me, who attacked us?' He says: 'Russia.' I say: 'Russia attacked us... That's complete madness, Russia is coming to kill you, Russia that was always portrayed as that big bear...'

On the Russian army: «You realize that what's coming is sheer horror... simply some sort of horde that doesn't care about anything. They will shoot, they will shoot into houses, into whatever. Battles were raging 15 kilometers away from us.

On why he was glad to have faced the war at home: «Thank God I was at home. That was the most important thing for me, because any other outcome or scenario would have been a nightmare. Especially if I had been, you know, in Moscow — that would have been sheer f***ing hell. But as it was, I understood that I was at home and would be with my family right now.

On Putin: «A person can indeed be born without a soul. He is a soulless cripple. He cannot love; he simply doesn't know how. And apparently, that kind of ruler is what Russia needs — that is, the ideal tyrant.

On his career in Russia after the war began in Donbas: «The Russo-Ukrainian war began in 2014. And when in 2016 I agreed to participate in the 'Open Mic' project, I knew what I was agreeing to. I agreed to go to Russia during an active war. That was my conscious choice... I hold no grievances [against Ukrainians who condemn me]. I understand that this is a valid grievance; I canceled myself.

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Sergey Detkov has publicly supported Ukraine, terminated all cooperation with Russian media platforms, and moved to Europe. In his 2026 interview, the comedian reaffirmed his unequivocal anti-war position, condemned Russian aggression, and acknowledged that working in Russia following the 2014 aggression was a grave mistake.
