Aleksey Serebryakov is a Soviet and Russian theater and film actor, People's Artist of the Russian Federation (2010). Winner of the "Nika" National Film Award (2019) and nominee for the Screen Actors Guild Award (2025). Born on July 3, 1964, in Moscow, RSFSR.

Aleksey Serebryakov on the war in Ukraine

Criticism of Russian authorities

Back in 2012, the actor emigrated with his family to Canada. According to the actor himself, the reason for leaving was the adverse social climate that had developed in Russia, marked by rising aggression and intolerance, as well as the authorities' disregard for basic civil rights.

In February 2018, in an interview with Yury Dud, he openly described the state of affairs in Russia:

I think that if you travel 30, 50, or 70 kilometers outside Moscow, you will see many elements of the 1990s. One way or another, to this day, neither knowledge, nor wit, nor enterprise, nor dignity are considered a priority or the national idea. The national idea consists of brute force, arrogance, and insolence!

When asked what he disliked about Putin, he answered:

The two L's: lies and looting... endless looting.

In late 2018, speaking at a business forum in London, he accused Russia of inciting wars over the past twenty years (Georgia, Chechnya, Ukraine, Syria, Central African Republic), resulting in Russia finding itself "completely surrounded by enemies and forced to display pseudo-patriotism." Serebryakov added that Russian authorities rewrite history to present their actions as allegedly "righteous."

In March 2021, Aleksey Serebryakov returned to Russia:

I never really left, to be honest. I took my children abroad to give them an education.

Aleksey Serebryakov's stance on the war in Ukraine

Following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Aleksey Serebryakov said nothing publicly, adopting a stance of silence. However, he did sign an open letter by the Russian Film Union (KinoSoyuz) opposing Russia's military invasion of Ukraine.

Charity work and aid to Donbas

Aleksey collaborates with the "Doctor Liza" charitable foundation, which provides assistance to individuals affected in armed conflict zones.

In 2023, a video emerged in which Serebryakov speaks about assisting a young girl from temporarily occupied Horlivka who lost limbs due to shelling. Naturally, the actor did not clarify why this happened, nor did he name the aggressor shelling the civilian population. Russian propaganda Telegram channels circulated this video in a politically favorable light. The initial publisher of the video was pro-Putin musician Nikolay Rastorguev (leader of the band "Lyube"), who noted that Serebryakov maintains no social media accounts and does not publicize his charity work.

Aleksey also assisted the foundation with collecting warm winter clothing.

In 2023, actor Aleksey Ogurtsov claimed on the YouTube show "Tak Skazat" (So to Speak) that Serebryakov had repented and was engaged in humanitarian aid for Donbas:

Now he transports animals from Luhansk to his shelters. In other words, Lyoshka came to his senses, publicly explained his position, which he says was misunderstood. He had one thing in mind, but it came out a bit differently. Yes, he spoke out and repented.

The actor continues to reside in Russia, actively star in Russian film productions, and pay taxes into the budget of the aggressor state, thereby indirectly funding the war in Ukraine.
