In August 2020, Andrey Skorokhod actively supported the protests in Belarus against election falsification and security forces violence. He published video appeals strongly criticizing the actions of the OMON riot police and Aleksandr Lukashenko personally.

We conquered our fear! ... What is happening right now on the streets is unacceptable. People who simply came out to express their opinion are being beaten.

The comedian also released satirical sketches and parodies of Lukashenko, ridiculing the dictatorship. During that period, his stance was perceived as unequivocally oppositional.

Andrey Skorokhod's Stance on the War in Ukraine

Following the outbreak of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Skorokhod initially spoke out against the war. On his social media accounts, he posted anti-war statements and appealed to Belarusian servicemen urging them not to participate in the military aggression.

I am against any war. War is terrifying. But I am also against human aggression and hatred... Denazification? There are no Nazis there. Demilitarization? Because Ukraine wanted to attack Russia? Uh... what? Well okay, I'm not an expert in military politics. I'll just say plainly, I do NOT BELIEVE this.

According to media reports, in 2022 Russian law enforcement authorities even threatened the comedian with an investigation for "inciting hatred" and deportation from Russia over his anti-war remarks.

Shift in Stance and Support for the Russian Armed Forces (2024–2025)

Despite his anti-war statements at the start of the invasion, Andrey Skorokhod chose to remain living and working in Russia, continuing his participation in "Comedy Club" productions (owned by Gazprom-Media). In August 2024, he registered as an individual entrepreneur (IP) in the Russian Federation to conduct business legally.

In December 2025, a public scandal erupted regarding a dramatic pivot in the artist's rhetoric. On December 9, celebrated in Russia as "Heroes of the Fatherland Day," Skorokhod published a post in which he congratulated Russian soldiers ("hero defenders"):

... Every era had its heroes – people who courageously defended their Fatherland! Today we congratulate today's hero defenders...

This gesture provoked intense public backlash. Belarusian opera singer Margarita Levchuk publicly called out the comedian for hypocrisy, recalling meeting him in Kyiv in 2022:

And what happened, Andryusha? Back in 2020 you stood for Belarus... Margarita left a comment under his post: «Glory to Ukraine and Long Live Belarus!

Propaganda Sketches on Comedy Club

In December 2025, Andrey Skorokhod definitively cemented his loyalty to the Russian authorities by participating in a propaganda sketch on Comedy Club ridiculing the Russian democratic opposition and TV Rain (Dozhd). In the performance alongside Demis Karibidis, the comedians portrayed anti-war emigres in Vilnius who supposedly engage in pointless donation drives and fantasize about «toppling the regime» at others' expense.

TV Rain broadcasted a response, noting that the parody evokes not laughter, but secondhand embarrassment («Spanish shame»), seeing how people who once expressed gratitude for television appearances now recite jokes straight from Kremlin talking points.

Andrey Skorokhod has become an active part of the Russian state propaganda machine, ridiculing those who stand against war and dictatorship.
