Evgeny Chichvarkin is a Russian entrepreneur and co-founder of the mobile phone retail chain Euroset. Since late 2008, he has lived in the United Kingdom, where he operates wine and restaurant businesses (Hedonism Wines, Hide). Renowned for his fierce criticism of Vladimir Putin and the Russian authoritarian regime. Born on September 10, 1974, in Leningrad, RSFSR.

Chichvarkin's stance before 2022
Chichvarkin consistently supported Ukraine long before the full-scale invasion. In 2014, he backed Euromaidan, describing it as an inspiring manifestation of civil society, and condemned the annexation of Crimea as entirely unlawful. Throughout the intervening years, he remained a relentless opponent of the Kremlin regime, accusing Putin of systemic corruption and the violent usurpation of power.
Chichvarkin's stance after February 24, 2022
Immediately following the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the businessman issued a blistering condemnation of the war. He stated that for Putin, war had become an end in itself and a twisted "national idea." Chichvarkin is convinced that as long as Putin is alive he will not stop, viewing the overthrow of the dictator as the only possible salvation for Russia and the sole path to ending the war.
I am Russian and I love my country, but I do not want Putin, militarism, totalitarianism, or the restoration of the USSR in any shape or form. Today our state is the aggressor, and I reject this. I want us to build, learn, trade, and invent. I want to see Ukraine and Russia as part of European civilization. That is why in this conflict (read: war crime), I stand with the Ukrainians.
Since February 2022, he has been an active member of the Russian Anti-War Committee.
On June 3, 2022, the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation added Evgeny Chichvarkin to its registry of individual "foreign agents." The ministry cited "political activity" and designated Ukraine as the purported source of foreign funding. The businessman reacted to this designation with ridicule, continuing to vocalize fierce opposition to the war.
In November 2025, Rosfinmonitoring added him to its registry of "terrorists and extremists." That October, the FSB announced a sweeping criminal case against the Anti-War Committee, accusing its members under criminal articles on seizing power and organizing a terrorist community.
Chichvarkin also frequently criticizes Western sanctions, arguing they are poorly enforced or target the wrong demographics (such as ordinary emigrants rather than Putin's inner circle):
They did everything to drive people back into Russia, while continuing to buy Russian oil, gas, fertilizers, timber, and diamonds, all while blocking ordinary people's money. The end result is that Russia retains both its population and its capital.
He anticipates a protracted war, emphasizing that Ukrainian society is prepared to resist for as long as necessary.
Aid to Ukraine and medical facilities
The entrepreneur does not limit himself to rhetoric; he actively supports Ukraine with substantial financial and humanitarian aid, focusing primarily on advanced tactical medicine:
How can we help Ukraine? We can express official, unequivocal support to those suffering from the war, and we can deliver high-grade medical supplies to alleviate the burden on hospital surgeons. This is significant support. Let's focus on this.
Chichvarkin organizes charity dinners and high-profile fundraising events. For example, during a charity dinner in Jūrmala and public speaking appearances across Europe, he raised tens of thousands of euros for medical procurement.
In the summer of 2024, he reported delivering a shipment of advanced pharmaceuticals valued at over €200,000 to Kyiv (including potent painkillers, hemostatic agents, and antibiotics). Furthermore, in November 2023, Chichvarkin personally visited the Zaporizhzhia Regional Hospital to observe how the donated equipment was being used and to confer directly with the doctors.
He also supports military fundraising initiatives, including joining Dmitry Gordon's campaign to purchase combat drones for front-line units.
Kidnapping plot
In October 2025, a British court sentenced six British nationals to prison terms ranging from 7 to 17 years for arson attacks against a warehouse storing military aid for Ukraine, as well as for plotting the kidnapping of Evgeny Chichvarkin on instructions from the Wagner Private Military Company. The perpetrators were intercepted before the kidnapping could be executed.
Evgeny Chichvarkin remains one of the most prominent anti-war voices among exiled Russian entrepreneurs, speaking truth to power and providing tangible, life-saving aid to victims of aggression.
Очень импонирует Евгений.
Единственное - вот алкобизнес не самое мягко говоря праведное занятие. Но кого это колышет, когда такой ужас происходит...
