Irina Gorbacheva is a Russian actress of Ukrainian descent. Winner of numerous domestic film and theater awards and festival prizes. Born on April 10, 1988, in Zhdanov (now Mariupol), Donetsk Oblast, Ukrainian SSR. She lived in Mariupol for 9 years.
The position of Irina Gorbacheva regarding the war in Ukraine
Immediately after the full-scale invasion, the actress tried to take a «neutral» stance. In February 2022, the artist addressed the public with an announcement that she was canceling her planned March concerts in Moscow and St. Petersburg. But even then, she did not dare call the war a «war», writing instead — «the unfolding situation». She helped refugees from the «DPR», «LPR», and Mariupol.
For some period after the invasion, Gorbacheva stayed abroad; it seemed as though she had emigrated from the terrorist state and would soon begin expressing an anti-war stance. Unfortunately, that did not happen: Gorbacheva returned to the Russian Federation and continued earning bloody rubles. She immediately appeared at the Moscow Film Festival.
Later, the actress switched sides and shifted her stance from neutral to supporting the war. Her civic position became one of the reasons for her divorce from her husband Anton Savlepov. In an interview on Madonna Moore's YouTube channel, she admitted:
When I had both the divorce from my second husband and the beginning of the SMO... When you choose to live in your country because you love it, and not because you are supposed to. Or because of someone saying something, or being afraid to leave... Not at all. I don't want to deny that I am part of my country, part of my state. I am part of my country, I am part of my state. I am part of any process taking place in my country. I choose to be here, to live here. And this, of course, hit me hard, because 95% of my friends turned their backs on me.
When asked by the host: «If choosing between staying silent, waiting, and openly declaring that you stand with your country, and you generally won't condemn what is happening, would you choose the second?» Gorbacheva replied: «Yes». Then the host continued: «I gather that this position led to the collapse of your family?» And Gorbacheva said: «That too».
