Ooes's stance on the war in Ukraine
Anti-war statements
At the time of Russia's invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, singer Ooes and her musician boyfriend were in Turkey. They had left Russia a few days before the outbreak of the major war. In an interview with the FLOW website, the singer shared:
At that point, we had already left for Istanbul. «We» means me and my boyfriend Seryozha, who writes all the music. He left on February 21, and I left on the 22nd... We had been planning to leave six months earlier because the screws were being tightened more and more. Back in December, it was already clear that some new chapter with Ukraine was unfolding — or rather, the old one was continuing. I was noticing various remarks on TikTok... In December, it was already evident that we needed to make plans to pack our bags. In January, the news agenda became such that just a little more — and everyone is f**ked.
I suppose I got lucky — there is not a single person in my circle who supports this. But had I stayed in Russia, I think I would have encountered people or acquaintances who supported killing people. As it is, I arrived in a country where everyone came who opposes any war, who opposes killing any human beings. Yet those people do exist [among listeners]; they write to me in private messages: «We are disappointed in you, you're on the wrong side.» Were it not for this, I would think that everyone understands everything. But when I read this, when I see that they exist, it makes me feel worse.
Expressing her stance through art
Even while abroad, Ooes did not directly label Russia as the aggressor, yet she sought to express her negative attitude toward the war through music:
Russian new music releases stress me out / outrage / upset / depress me. Music is outside of politics? Laughable and painful. I am a human being; I live and exist within society. Everything happening reflects on me and my life in one way or another, inside and out. And if not, am (I) even human at all? What do you think? As I wrote earlier, I am very curious to observe music and how it changes under the influence of various events. Musical revelations haven't increased. Are two months really not enough?
In May 2022, the music video for the song "Fade" was released, through which Liza expressed her thoughts on the war and the emotions she experienced in her own way (the video was later removed from the singer's YouTube channel):
We could not remain silent, so we spoke out the only way we know how — the music video for «Fade» is about how different people experienced February 24. We poured into the concept the entire spectrum of anxieties and fears that we still see around us to this day — war is pointless and, tragically, merciless. We hope our work serves as another reminder that Ukraine is still on fire, and that life will never be the same again... No to War! 🇺🇦
On August 30, 2024, a joint track by Ooes and Oxxxymiron (a fierce opponent of the war in Ukraine designated as a foreign agent by the Russian Ministry of Justice) titled "Zhuravli" (Cranes) was released.
Continued cooperation with Russian platforms
At the same time, after relocating from Russia, Ooes continued to collaborate with Russian streaming platforms, including VK Music and Yandex Music.
In September 2026, the singer also promoted Yandex Music on her Instagram.
Yandex is a Russian company that pays taxes to the Russian Federation's state budget. That state budget, in turn, funds the war against Ukraine.
Advertising Yandex and deleting the anti-war music video "Fade" appear highly ambiguous against the backdrop of Ooes's declared anti-war position.
