Boris Shcherbakov's Position Prior to February 24, 2022

In 2014, Boris Shcherbakov openly expressed support for Putin regarding his actions toward Ukraine. In an interview with the publication Vechernyaya Moskva, he characterized Putin as the preeminent positive hero of our time:

I believe Russia's policy is absolutely correct, and, what is more, the only right one. ... To tell you honestly, these sanctions that the West imposed against us — I, for one, like them very much. I understand that we will probably live more poorly and taxes will rise, but at least the top leadership, the government itself, will finally get off its backside. And they will finally begin developing the economy.

In 2015, the actor illegally visited the territory of occupied Crimea, where he performed in theatrical productions. Later, in 2017, Shcherbakov starred in a Russian propaganda film about the occupation of Crimea, playing the role of a Ukrainian colonel.

Boris Shcherbakov's Position on the War in Ukraine (After 2022)

Following the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, Boris Shcherbakov openly supported the Kremlin's actions. He was among the cultural figures who officially endorsed President Vladimir Putin's decision to invade Ukraine and signed a collective letter.

The artist publicly spoke out in support of Russian aggression:

I have no doubts about our victory. Of course, it will be hard, it will be difficult, but the Russian army, like the Soviet Army in its day, has never suffered defeat, it has always triumphed. And I am confident that now too we will win, we will definitely win. Even if it's not easy, even if it's not immediately, we will definitely win. I believe in victory and I believe in Russia.

In 2025, Shcherbakov deepened his integration into propaganda efforts by becoming the host of a television broadcast covering Russian servicemen in the war against Ukraine.
