Since July 20, 2022, he has been subject to personal sanctions by the European Union and Canada due to his vocal endorsement of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Sergey Bezrukov’s Position on the War in Ukraine

Following the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, Bezrukov posted a message across his social media accounts in support of the Russian military under the Kremlin slogan #WeDontAbandonOurOwn:

I always support my country Russia and my fellow citizens. And I strive to affirm this with deeds, in particular, by helping refugees from the DPR and LPR. Because #WeDontAbandonOurOwn..

In early March, he staged a series of theatrical performances for children evacuated from the so-called "DPR" and "LPR". Before one of the performances, he walked onto the stage and proclaimed:

We all hope and pray that all these guys, all these men, fulfill their duty with honor and return home – to Russia.

According to the international journalistic investigative project Kremlin Leaks, Bezrukov belongs to the «agit-brigades» of pro-government Russian celebrities. These propaganda touring teams were organized under orders from Sergey Kiriyenko to conduct tours in the occupied territories of Ukraine for the purpose of «maintaining the fighting morale» of Russian troops during the military assault on Ukraine. The project itself is supervised by the state propaganda structure ANO «Integration», established to promote loyal opinion leaders across the mass media (source).

In October 2022, the Yermak-McFaul International Working Group on Russian Sanctions included Bezrukov on the list of war propagandists and ideologues who «manufacture false narratives in accordance with Kremlin policy», proposing the implementation of international sanctions against him.
