Galina Bezruk's Stance on the War in Ukraine
Following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Galina Bezruk offered not a single public comment, adopting a stance of silence. In a private conversation with Ukrainian actress Natalka Denisenko, Bezruk admitted that she was afraid to speak openly about the war. Natalka recalled in an interview with "Zirkovyi Shlyakh":
Galya Bezruk – a Ukrainian actress who was constantly filming with us, wrote: «I am scared because I'll be put in prison for 15 years. I won't write anything.
In October 2022, in an interview with Gazeta.ru, Bezruk spoke about her emotional state, fears, and the reasons why she continues to remain in Russia:
After February 24, I haven't exercised a single day. I simply can't. I have no strength or energy at all. I can only work, because that is my life.
The curses that are sent my way — I don't even read them anymore. I just see the first word and immediately block them. I don't even investigate; I have no time to explain to every armchair critic the situation I find myself in. If you use your brain a little, it is completely clear why I am where I am (note: in Russia). Who my husband is, who my child is — what nationality they are. I choose family. I do not choose the homeland, I choose family. The people closest to me — myself and my family.
This morning I asked my husband how we would celebrate the New Year. He answered me: «Look at me. Do you see what is happening? Do you understand that a draft notice could arrive for me at any moment? What New Year?» I never thought my response could be like this, because in principle I always knew how to dream and knew how to do it. But right now I genuinely want everything to end and for people to be able to start living again.
The actress's parents reside in Kyiv. Bezruk commented on her relationship with her parents as follows:
My parents live in Kyiv. I am happy that they and my other relatives are very sensible people who understand perfectly well that I, with my tiny female hands, cannot solve the problem of two countries. Therefore, we have no conflicts. There can be bad people in any country, so one definitely shouldn't judge by nationality, but by actions. I understand that a lot is done deliberately — to pit loved ones against each other, and I do not succumb to that.
Galina continues to live and work in Russia, tacitly supporting the Russo-Ukrainian war through her silence.
