Marat Basharov's stance on the war in Ukraine
Supports the Putin regime and the war against Ukraine.
On the morning of 24 February 2022, an archival photograph with Vladimir Putin was published on the actor's social media page. Basharov captioned the photo with a single word: "Thank you".

Following this publication, he was dismissed from the Moscow drama theater "School of Modern Play". The artistic director of the theater, Iosif Reichelgauz, originally from Odesa, did not support the war and condemned Basharov's conduct in the sharpest terms. He stated that the actor could not continue working in a theater that stands against violence and aggression. Shortly thereafter, however, Reichelgauz himself was dismissed from his post for refusing to support the war and publicly criticizing the actions of the Russian government.
On 12 June 2022, Basharov visited occupied Luhansk and performed there as part of Russia Day celebrations.

Marat Basharov condemned fellow artists who did not support the war and fled Russia:
One's Motherland is like a mother, like a father, like loved ones. Russia, just like parents, provided many arts figures who have now left our country with an upbringing, education, housing, and work. And in return, we — that is, the very Russia where you and I live right now — receive a heap of squeamish burps from these turncoats. That is an irresponsible stance; it is alien to me and many of my colleagues who faithfully work in Russia and love it
