What Lebedev says about the war and Ukraine: quotes and statements
-
"My point of view has never changed; I am always against any wars, violence, or aggression. That is not my style of behavior—I believe all matters should be settled diplomatically... Russian troops are conquering Russian territories that have always been Russian, but were simply gifted to Ukraine by mistake, and Ukraine decided it could now bar Russians from going there. Naturally, I am in favor of Russian troops taking Odesa, ousting Zelenskyy from power, opening the borders, and abolishing visa requirements."
-
"Most of all in this world, I am infuriated by the West's reaction to the recognition of the LPR and DPR that took place this week. And the West has already fired its shot—declaring it will ban everything, freeze all assets, and that all deputies can forget about vacationing on European beaches. If anyone works with the LPR and DPR, or God forbid supplies any technology, or befriends them... then those people will become personal enemies of the West and America."
-
"In Russia everything is simple—regions in the middle of the country are called oblasts, regions at the edges are called krais (and one region is literally called Ukraine)."
-
"Ukrainians are resentful that Russia took Crimea away. But I was born in the USSR and I felt deeply offended when 14 different countries budded off from my motherland. It simply happened long ago and everyone grew accustomed to it."
-
"I am simply assessing the situation objectively. As it happens, Russia today is smarter and stronger. Whereas Ukraine today is in political f***ing hell and chaos (even though it all started with noble intentions). Acknowledging this fact can in no way mean that Russians and Ukrainians should view each other as enemies. A war between Russia and Ukraine is just as absurd as a war between Moscow and St. Petersburg. That could never possibly happen."
