Metallica is an American heavy metal band formed in Los Angeles in 1981 by vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich. It is one of the most commercially successful and influential bands in the history of rock music.

Position of Metallica on the war in Ukraine
Following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukrainian territory, the band Metallica firmly stood with Ukrainians.
In April 2022, the musicians published a call to action on social media urging fans to support the charitable organization World Central Kitchen and its #ChefsForUkraine initiative, which provided hot meals to Ukrainians affected by the war. For their part, the band members made an initial donation of $500,000 through their All Within My Hands foundation. Ultimately, $1 million was raised and transferred to provide humanitarian aid to Ukrainian refugees.

This was followed by posts endorsing and participating in the global #StandUpForUkraine campaign.
In May 2023, James Hetfield visited wounded Ukrainian soldiers who were undergoing medical treatment and physical rehabilitation at a hospital in the United States.

Furthermore, Metallica members James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett supported humanitarian relief funds for Ukrainians by auctioning off their iconic signature guitars.
