Vera Polozkova's stance on the war in Ukraine
In March 2022, she left Russia and published Instagram stories condemning the war and the political regime in Russia:
Over the course of 11 days, many points of no return have been crossed. In my country, there is no longer any politics, no journalism, not a single functioning legal institution. There is an absolutely insane, brutal war against our closest neighbors, the worst economic crisis in 30 years, and propaganda in the finest traditions of Goebbels' handbooks. And hatred, hatred, hatred as a national idea... But the state is not equal to the people. The people making decisions on behalf of my nation are in power unlawfully: there haven't been honest elections for a decade. Therefore, their only weapon is lies. Lies and inciting terror. I believe it won't always be this way.
Following her departure, Polozkova continued performing and publishing outside the Russian Federation, steadfastly maintaining her anti-war rhetoric.
In December 2022, in an interview with Yury Dud, she revealed that she financially assists the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU):
A portion of money from our concerts always goes strictly to Ukraine, to my friend who fundraises for tactical medicine, gear, and bulletproof vests for the AFU... I believe these guys are fighting for me. Personally for me and for my children, who thanks to the Ukrainian army, if it wins—and it will win, it just takes time—will someday be able to visit Russia.
The poet also acknowledged that the Russian public is virtually beyond reform:
A country that did this to Ukraine, if it gets extremely lucky, will acknowledge this, repent, and pay reparations. But for it to become fit for living after everything that will happen to it now, I cannot imagine how much time must pass. It may not happen during our lifetime anymore.
During her performances across Europe, Polozkova reads poems dedicated to the war, supports refugees, collaborates with Ukrainian musicians, and organizes fundraisers to assist war victims.
In February 2025, Rosfinmonitoring added the poet to the registry of "terrorists and extremists."
