Evgeny Margulis is a Soviet and Russian singer, guitarist, bassist, songwriter, and television host. Merited Artist of the Russian Federation (1999). Best known as a member of the rock bands «Mashina Vremeni» and «Voskresenie». Born on December 25, 1955, in Moscow.

Margulis on the war in Ukraine

Listening to this artist's tracks on official streaming platforms, social media, and other services indirectly contributes to financing the war — through taxes paid to the budget of the Russian Federation.

In 2014, he commented on the position of Andrey Makarevich (his former bandmate in «Mashina Vremeni»), who publicly opposed Russian aggression against Ukraine:

People who sing with their mouths should nevertheless sing, rather than engage in politics. You should at least read a certain number of articles, a certain number of books, to understand what is actually happening. And since about 90 percent of those singing with their mouths are not entirely sensible people, it's better not to do that; it's better to just sing.

Evgeny Margulis’s Position on the War in Ukraine

Following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Evgeny Margulis adopted a stance of silence, and to this day strives to avoid commenting on the war.

In July 2022, Evgeny Margulis took part in recording Garik Sukachyov's "anti-emigrant" music video «Ya ostayus» (I Am Staying) alongside artists such as Sergey Shnurov ("Leningrad"), Vladimir Shakhrin ("Chaif"), Aleksandr F. Sklyar ("Va-Bankъ"), Oleg Garkusha ("Auktsyon"), Sergey Galanin ("SerGa"), Sergey 'Chizh' Chigrakov ("Chizh & Co"), the group "25/17", Andrey Knyazev ("Knyazz", "Korol i Shut"), Aya ("Gorod 312"), Svetlana Surganova, Vladimir and Sergey Kristovsky ("Uma2rmaH"), Maksim Kucherenko ("Undervud"), and others.

In September 2022, Margulis commented on musicians who had left Russia:

Well, they left and they left. I think they will return, because sooner or later everything ends. Everything is not as simple or unambiguous as it seems to our media figures. This is a very complex story of geopolitics.

The musician continues hosting «Kvartirnik u Margulisa», inviting predominantly pro-Putin musicians who endorse the so-called SMO.

In January 2023, «Kvartirnik NTV u Margulisa» was held at a Defense Ministry hospital. Performing for the military servicemen were Yuta, Sergey Galanin, the band «Zemlyane», and singer Shaman.

Evgeny Margulis continues performing in Russia, occasionally taking part in concerts of the band «Voskresenie».

On August 9, 2024, in connection with the Ukrainian Armed Forces' offensive in Kursk Oblast, the musician made a statement making it unequivocally clear whose side he is on:

Everything that is currently happening in Kursk Oblast can be called the death agony of the Kyiv authorities. It resembles a cornered rat lunging at people. But nothing will come of it. We will win.
