On February 25, 2022, he posted a detailed statement on his Instagram, fully endorsing and attempting to justify Russia's armed invasion of the territory of Ukraine:

Russia's operation is in full compliance with international law. The decision to conduct a special military operation was made in accordance with Article 51, Chapter 7 of the UN Charter, which provides for the inherent right of individual or collective self-defense. It extends not only to Russia as a UN member state, but also to its allies — the DPR and LPR, recognized by Russia as independent republics. Russia has every right to undertake the defense of these republics. The goals of the declared operation: peaceful life in Donbas, de-Nazification and demilitarization of Ukraine, and therefore — protecting Russia from what have become glaring military threats on its borders. This is a peacekeeping operation, the termination of genocide, and the prevention of an attack on Russia. This is Russia's self-defense and the defense of its allies.
We no longer have the right to tolerate the killing of Russian-speaking citizens and the buildup of military and declared nuclear infrastructure aimed at our destruction. AND ENOUGH WIPING YOUR FEET ON RUSSIA. 30 years of unprincipled deception of Russia by the West have concluded. The West does not want to recognize our rights, and Russia will never again agree to have its voice ignored or its citizens treated as second-class human beings. The time has come to call everything by its proper name: the United States and its allies want to destroy our country. Claims about NATO's peaceful nature are lies. The hands of the US and NATO have long been drenched in the blood of the citizens of Serbia, Iraq, Libya, and Syria. Nothing would have stopped them in the future from shedding blood inside Russia.

At an informal gathering during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on June 15, 2023, Baskov and Grigory Leps announced that they would personally pay 1 million rubles to Russian soldiers for every destroyed Leopard tank of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

We, Ukraine, are a «brotherly people living in falsehood and perversion»? Falsehood, Nikolay, is when you are forbidden from expressing your stance, from going out into the street with a poster, when they hand down 15 years in prison for the words «no to war.» Falsehood and perversion are you, festering propagandists. It's when children in school are forbidden from discussing the war or even uttering that word. When they sing songs like «Uncle Vova, we are with you» and arrange themselves on the floor in the shape of the letter «Z.» Perversion is when a Russian soldier captured in Ukraine calls his mother in Russia, and she tells him: «Son, please don't say anything about yourself, I beg of you. They will come and throw me in prison.» Perversion is when Russian occupiers stole even women's underwear, fur coats, and suitcases from our women, calling their wives while their wives urge: «Grab more, grab as much as you can.» Perversion and falsehood are doctored videos from Ukraine from the war zones, edited so that a fabricated truth pours out of the idiot box. That is the falsehood in every single word that is broadcast.

In the past, this man (Nikolay Baskov) was quite sparkling, and one could even say he was talented. Today he has become a hostage to his own political sloppiness. His single thoughtless blunder — initially signing the statement in support of Russia's aggression against Ukraine — dragged everything else in its wake. In Korchevnikov's broadcast, everyone indeed watched Baskov's tears, but in reality they were about something entirely different. Not at all about what Nikolay was laboriously droning on about on air. He was mourning his lost opportunities, his past carefree existence, his trips to Europe for oligarchs' lavish weddings, his massive fees. He used to feel like such a darling of fortune. Now all that carelessness has come to an end. Unquestionably, today he would dream of being at least politically neutral. More likely than not, Baskov understands today that by his mere appearance he justifies all these atrocities and shares responsibility. My understanding is that he suffers from deep-seated psychological issues, which may have triggered hormonal imbalance.
