"SerGa" is a Russian rock band formed in 1994 by Sergey Galanin in Moscow.

SerGa on the war in Ukraine

Listening to this artist's tracks on official streaming platforms, social media, and other services indirectly contributes to financing the war — through taxes paid to the budget of the Russian Federation.

In August 2017, Sergey Galanin was entered into the database of the "Myrotvorets" website for illegal concert activities on the territory of Russian-occupied Crimea, participating in Russian propaganda events, and other violations. During Euromaidan and the annexation of Crimea, he took a pro-Russian stance. In 2019, he dedicated a song to the former leader of the "DPR," Zakharchenko.

SerGa's Stance on the War in Ukraine

Following the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, members of the group "SerGa" expressed support for the aggression by participating in the musical-patriotic marathon "Za Rossiyu," organized in support of Russian military operations in Ukraine. According to the BBC Russian Service, the performance fee amounted to 10.5 million rubles, which was significantly above market rates. Galanin commented on his participation in the marathon, echoing typical Kremlin talking points:

We received an offer to take part in the 'Za Rossiyu!' tour, and we agreed — we have something to say, something to sing to the people on the theme of the battle between good and evil, on the theme of war and peace. Over these eight years of war next door, plenty of such songs have been written. For us, everything began on May 2 at the Trade Unions House, and then, like a snowball, everything began to build: the bombings of cities began, and that is how these shells kept falling on Donbas for all these eight years.

Russian President Vladimir Putin does not make hasty decisions. There was nowhere left to retreat. Just like in 1941 — Moscow is behind us. Therefore, we must support the commander-in-chief and the Armed Forces of Russia. And toward the military in our country, especially now, there is tremendous trust across our entire multinational people.

In interviews and public remarks, Galanin has repeatedly emphasized that he considers the so-called "special operation" a matter of survival for Russia:

I supported the special military operation, because it is a matter of survival for Russia.

I began to weigh things and recall all of history. Nazism once originated in Europe; this must not be forgotten. We must not forget Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Stop believing in the civilized world. People are making their money. I don't envy them. It's important for us not to swim into this whirlpool. Right now there is total Russophobia.

In December 2022, on the air of "Life and Fate," the band's leader condemned artists who left abroad:

Those who left, what are they looking for over there? Freedom? How can a person be free where your language, your culture, your history are of no interest? It turns out you're only there to protect your investments. It feels like many people, by leaving, become serfs of the globalized world,« the musician commented on the air of »Life and Fate.

Furthermore, frontman Galanin, in an interview on the YouTube channel "Empathy Manuchi," spoke about his performances in the zone of the so-called SMO, a concert in occupied Donetsk for Emergency Situations Ministry employees, intimate acoustic performances at 4 Vishnevsky military hospitals, and a private apartment gig. According to Galanin, communicating with service members is crucial:

There is a lot of cowardice, fear, misunderstanding, and resentment in us. You look at them and realize how foolish and unworthy that is for a man and a Russian soul. There are very young guys there who could be my grandsons. Many are without arms, without legs. It is important for me to meet them, to tell them that we are on the same side of the barricades. To bow down before them.

In March 2023, the band "SerGa" released a new record, "You Can't Be Broken," dedicated to the so-called SMO. Galanin commented on the release of the album as follows:

Many think that these are simply poems about war. In my opinion, they are much broader. These are verses about war, about Donbas, about Russia, about searching for something bright and truly right, pure, about the human soul. That is, about good and evil.

The band "SerGa" and Sergey Galanin personally maintain an explicitly pro-war position, endorse Russia's actions against Ukraine, and actively engage in propaganda by performing in occupied territories and before Russian military personnel.
